   Self harm

Self harm is a common problem, particularly among young people and females. Left untreated, it can be a dangerous and damaging. However, it can usually be overcome quickly and permanently with CBT and Hypnosis.

What is self harm

  • Cutting
  • Poisoning
  • Over-eating or under-eating
  • Burning
  • Inserting objects into the body
  • Hitting against walls
  • Overdosing
  • Exercising excessively
  • Scratching and hair pulling
Many people feel embarrassed or are worried that other people will
judge them, or pressurize you to stop if they find out. Self harming
is often kept secret, which only helps to make it stronger.

Parents, do you see
  • High anxiety, stress and nervousness
  • Withdrawal, depression or isolation
  • Aggressive or argumentative behaviour
  • Avoidance of certain situations, such as school
  • Failing at school, unable to concentrate or achieve
  • Secretive behaviour

Why self harm
Self-harm is usually a way of dealing with very difficult feelings, memories, trauma or overwhelming situations.

After self-harming, people often feel better and more able to cope for a while. However, this often turns into a dangerous habit, relief does not last, and the action is repeated. I teach people to handle these situations in a more positive way, without the need for harm.

Self harm

Self harm has become an increasingly common problem. I find many do this behaviour as a way to deal with anxiety, stress, low self esteem and other difficult challenges.
CBT therapy gives young people the tools they need to control anxiety and become more confident.

Why CBT works

Most people seek clear, practical and immediate help for their problem. They look for solutions to make changes, overcome problems and take control of their life. Talking about the problem with a Counsellor can be helpful, but is often not sufficient.

THERAPY will improve

  • Confidence
  • Ability to deal with stressful situations
  • Self image
  • Behaviours which were previously destructive
  • Anxiety control & stress management
  • Sleep

If you or your child is dealing with self harm, call to discuss how this can be changed.
